Apple avoids GAAP headache by making consumers pay

Apple’s new computers are equipped to take advantage of newer, faster wireless speeds. But, to unlock this ability, they are asking consumers to pay $1.99. This is because the software was, until recently, not optimized for the hardware. Apple alleges that if it gave away this missing link for free, auditors would require the company to restate revenue.
